“Be kind and compassionate to one another” — Ephesians 4:32
Taxi driver Ken Nerburn picked up his last fare for the day, a frail woman in her 90s. She gave him her destination address, then asked, “Could you drive through downtown?
“Its not the shortest way,” he said.
“I’m in no hurry,” she said. “I’m on my way to a hospice. The doctor says I don’t have long.”
For the next two hours, she pointed out places where she had played and worked and lived.
When they arrived at the convalescent home, Ken refused payment. She held onto him tightly when he hugged her.
“You gave an old woman some moments of joy,” she said. “Thank you.”
We sometimes think that our lives are made meaningful by great moments. But a great moment often catches us unaware – unexpectedly wrapped in what we may consider an insignificant one.
A small act of kindness may be the biggest thing you do today.
