James Group
“Blessed is the man who endures trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him” James 1: 12
The James Group at Highland Church of Christ uses God’s word first as a guide and the twelve-step principles for recovery from addiction, compulsion, or other behavioral problems. The group is a resource for those seeking support on the road to recovery. James Group does not replace counseling, medical care, personal effort, or other support groups. It is designed to provide a forum where those in recovery can voice their opinions and life experiences without fear of condemnation, rejection or judgment.
James Group uses the Bible, other translations of the Bible and 12-step materials and resources as a guideline. Non-Christians are welcomed to attend meetings.
The principles:
- Always recognizing God as the greater power that gives strength
- Admitting that one cannot control one's addiction or compulsion
- Examining past errors with the help of a sponsor (experienced member)
- Making amends for these errors
- Learning to live a new life with a new code of behavior
- Helping others that suffer from the same addictions or compulsions.
The James Group meets at Highland on Tuesday at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Meetings are open and participants may share if desired, or pass if preferred. A comfortable, friendly atmosphere is maintained and positive attitudes are encouraged.
The Prayer of Serenity
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
